Abstract

868,724. Loose-leaf binders. HARE & SON Ltd., C. H. Sept. 7, 1959 [Sept. 10, 1958; Jan. 15, 1959], Nos. 28987/58 and 1467/59. Class 146(1). A loose-leaf binder of the kind comprising ring bearing plates mounted in a spring housing and capable of pivotal movement relative to each other, is provided with a stud mounted in an aperture in the housing and adjustable whereby in one position the plates are free for normal actuation and in another position are locked against movement. The stud d slidable in a longitudinal slot C <SP>2</SP> in the spring housing c abuts the adjoining edges of the ring bearing plates b, b<SP>1</SP> at one end of the slot to prevent opening of the split rings a, a<SP>1</SP> but at the other end of the slot co-operates with a circular aperture b<SP>4</SP>, provided one half in each of the plates b, b<SP>1</SP>, so that the split rings may be opened with the usual snap action. In an alternative arrangement, the stud e is rotatably mounted on the spring housing and the cooperating apertures in the plates b, b<SP>1</SP> are shaped to provide teeth b<SP>6</SP>. The teeth engage in an annular groove in the stud e to lock the binder against normal actuation or the stud e is rotated by means of a finger piece e<SP>1</SP> to bring vertical grooves e<SP>3</SP> in the stud into line with the teeth to allow normal actuation of the binder.
