868,391. Compressing paper longitudinally. HUNT & MOSCROP Ltd. Nov. 16, 1959 [Nov. 17, 1958], No. 36836/58. Class 96. Paper P is fed past a mist-spray damper A to a plate B upon which it is pleated; it then passes to a shrinking unit C which may be warm or cold, and which comprises a pressure-roller 1 engaging a belt 3, e.g. of rubber, passing about drums 4, 5, the drum 5 being adjustable horizontally and vertically, and the belt 3 having a shore number of 65 to 90, i.e. it is harder and firmer than those used for shrinking textiles, the paper remaining uncreped during the compression. The paper then passes to a large, heated drying-cylinder D, co-operating with a travelling-blanket E. The drum 5 may be driven by a belt or chain passing about a spring-loaded jockey-pulley or sprocket to accommodate variations in the position of the drum. A dog-clutch may be fitted.
