Abstract
The invention comprises alkali metal salt of omega-hydroxypolyalkyleneoxybenzenesulphonic acids having molecular weights from about 50 to about 5000 and a process for their preparation by reacting together a hydroxybenzene sulphonic acid, a metal hydroxide and an alkylene oxide. The condensation is carried out in the usual way using for example, ethylene, propylene or butylene oxide in excess with a phenol or cresol sulphonic acid. In an example sodium p-phenol sulphonate is condensed with 30 moles of ethylene oxide. The salts may be used in the preparation of modified polyesters and in an example dimethyl terephthalate is subjected to ester interchange with ethylene glycol in the presence of a salt of molecular weight 1475 and of trimethyl trimesate and zinc acetonylacetate. The polymer is said to have improved dyeing characteristics.ALSO:The invention comprises alkali metal salts of omega hydroxy-polyalkyleneoxybenzene sulphonic acids having molecular weights from about 50 to about 5000 and a process for their preparation by reacting together a hydroxybenzene sulphonic acid, a metal hydroxide and an alkylene oxide.
