Abstract
Organo-zinc and organo-cadmium compounds are prepared by reacting zinc or cadmium chloride dispersed in mineral oil with an organo-aluminium compound at a temperature about 20 DEG C. but below the boiling point and decomposition temperature of any component present, the mineral oil being of B.P. substantially above that of the desired product, and distilling the product from the reaction mixture, preferably under reduced pressure. The zinc or cadmium chloride should be anhydrous. The aluminium containing reactant may contain radicals which are the same or different, and which are C1-C7 alkyl or cyclic such as phenyl, cyclohexyl or benzyl.
