Abstract
<PICT:0867823/III/1> A portion of gas flowing in line 33 from a gas generator (see Group XII) is continuously withdrawn for infra-red analysis through line 34 into cooler-knockout drum 45. This drum comprises a cooling section supplied with cooling water through lines 48 and 49 which cools the gases in line 34 before they pass to knockout section 47; in this section condensate and free carbon collects and is withdrawn through line 55. Gas leaves through line 57 which also passes through cooler section 46, and any further condensate which forms falls back into chamber 47. Pressure reducing valve 58 reduces the pressure from the value of up to 500 p.s.i.g. which exists in lines 33, 34 and 57 to up to 200 p.s.i.g. The gas in line 59 is then taken for analysis, but in order to ensure rapid response of the sampling system to changes in the gas stream 33, the apparatus is continuously flushed by withdrawing a bleed stream through line 61, valve 62 and orifice 63 to a vent.
