867,754. Engine tachometers. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. March 1, 1960 [March 26, 1959], No. 10509/60. Addition to 843,152. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] In an arrangement of the kind described in the parent Specification, in which impulses from the primary side of the ignition circuit of an I.C. engine shaped by a Zener diode 2 charge a capacitor 14 which discharges in the intervals between impulses through a measuring instrument 13 to indicate the engine speed, a pair of rectifiers through which the capacitor is charged and discharged respectively is replaced by a rectifier bridge 5-8 so that the meter 13 is also affected by the charging current. As in the parent Specification, highfrequency ripples are suppressed by inductor 1 and the meter may have a set of shunts to adapt the system for different numbers of cylinders.
