Abstract

867,596. Ventilators. JANES. P. H., and SMITH, W. E. June 11. 1959 [June 25, 1958], No. 20332/58. Class 137 A ventilator and diffuser device comprises a first series of frusto-conical vanes 2, which are fixed, and a second series of cylindrical vanes 10, the vanes 2 being supported from a frame 1 by a spider 3 having a central. boss 4 and the vanes 10 being axially displaceable in relation to the vanes 2 to open or close the ventilator. The vanes 10 are carried on a spider 9 supported on an internally threaded boss 8 which is screwed towards the head 6 of a shaft 5 supported by the boss 4 when the shaft 5 is turned by means of a slot 7. The ends of opposite arms of the spider 9-engage pressed out parts 13 of a cylindrical extension 11 of the frame 1 in order to prevent the vanes 10 from rotating during their axial movement. When the vanes 2, 10 are together a shoulder (not shown) on the shaft 5 abuts against the boss 8. A set screw 16 enables the ventilator to be locked in any desired position. The device may be of metal, e.g. anodised aluminium, or of plastics material. The vanes may be of rectangular form instead of being circular as shown.
