Abstract

867,264. Photolithographic printing plate production. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. May 20, 1959 [June 9,1958], No. 17168/59. Class 98(2) An original is exposed in contact with a base having a surface of a water-soluble diazocontaining polymer to render exposed portions insoluble, such surface is contacted with the wet surface of a hydrophilic colloid on a second base and then removed, to leave the remaining, soluble portions of the exposed surface on the second base, and such soluble portions are decomposed whereby the hydrophilic colloid in contact therewith is tanned and becomes inkaccepting. The process may be effected in approximately 30 seconds. In an example a paper base calendered with insolubilised casein is coated with a dope comprising polyvinyl methyl ether maleic anhydride and cellulose :acetate, sensitised with p-diazo diphenyl amineformaldehyde condensation product, exposed in contact with a typewritten image on a translucent sheet of paper, and contacted with a similar calendered and doped paper but which bad been subjected to the action of hot moist ammonia fumes to render the surface hydrophilie and wetted with aqueous ethylene glycol; after which the so wetted paper is briefly reexposed and put on an offset press for printing. Other diazo compounds for use in the process are quoted with reference to foreign specifications, and gelatin, glue and water-soluble cellulose ether may be used as the hydrophilic colloid. The transferred diazo compound may be decomposed chemically or by heat instead of the re-exposure of the example.
