Abstract
866,997. Rocket motors. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 25, 1958, No. 38021/58. Addition to 844,245. Classes 9(1) and 9(2). The rocket motor described in the parent Specification is modified to allow propellent gas to leak to a space 19 between the forward end of the casing 1 and the solid propellant 5. On ignition of the adjacent end faces 7, 8 of the charges 5, 6 respectively, gas can flow through an annular gap 18 surrounding the charge 5 and through openings 17 in a ring 13 supporting the charge 5 into the space 19. With the exception of the ignition surfaces 7, 8 ignition-inhibiting material such as cellulose acetate covers both charges. Ignition means 28 placed between the charge and mounted on the transfer tube as in the parent Specification-comprises an electric igniter of which the leads 29 pass through the tube and the rocket nozzle (not shown) to an energy source (not shown). It is stated that the rocket motor may contain three or more charges similarly arranged.
