866,807. Polishing buffs. CODMAN CO., F. L. & J. C. Jan. 29, 1958 [Feb. 12, 1957 ; Aug. 8, 1957], No. 18335/60. Divided out of 866,806. Class 60. A process of forming a buffing element comprises spreading into the form of a cylindrical band 15, Fig. 3e, the fabric from each of two used buffing elements which have been worn away to approximately half their radial depth and are of the type wherein a wide cylindrical band of plied fabric is folded outwardly about its centre and secured in folded position by mechanical gripping means in a radiallyshallow zone adjacent the fold line, joining a circumferential edge of one to a circumferential edge of the other, folding them outwardly along their junction into side-by-side relationship 15o, 15r, Fig. 2, and securing the joined circumferential portions to a supporting centre 19, 21. The edges of the used fabric bands are joined by being sewn to a tape 17, which does not substantially increase the thickness of the fabric. The supporting centre is formed by initially separate metallic members 19, 21, which can readily be dismantled after use, and is of the type described in Specification 866,806.
