Abstract

An isocyanate composition having improved stability against discolouration comprises an organic isocyanate having dissolved therein an essentially colourless triaryl phosphite. The amount of phosphite employed is preferably 0,05 to 0,5% based on the weight of the isocyanate. A list of acyclic and carboxyclic mono-, di- and tri-isocyanates which may be stabilised with the phosphites is given and substituents which the aryl radicals may bear are mentioned. In examples toluene 2,4-di-isocyanate, a mixture of toluene 2,4- and 2,6-di-isocyanate and 4,41-methylenediphenylisocyanate are colour stabilised with triphenyl phosphite and their colour properties compared with similar unstabilised isocyanates.
