Abstract

The invention comprises L-, D-, and DL-2-chloro - 3,4 - dimethyl - 5 - phenyl - 2 - oxide - 1,3,2 - oxazaphospholidines. They may be obtained by treating the corresponding L-, D-, or DL-ephedrine dissolved in an inert solvent, e.g. benzene, ether or CCL4, with phosphorus oxychloride in the presence of a basic material, e.g. a tertiary organic base such as triethylamine. The products are useful as intermediates for the preparation of ephedrine phosphoric ester derivatives as disclosed in Specification 1,016,078 is referred to.
