Abstract
866,316. Heating steam boilers by hot gases. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Aug. 27, 1999 [Aug. 29, 1958], No. 27782/58. Class 123(2) [Also in Group XL(a)] In plant including a gas-cooled nuclear reactor 1, steam generating means 9, an economizer 8, soolant circulating ducts 3, 4, a separator drum 11, a conduit 17 for leading water from a source through the economizer to the separator drum, and a conduit for circulating water from the separator drum through the steam generating means, water from the separator drum is circulated through the economizer at a variable rate through conduit 23 in order to adjust the temperature of the coolant entering the reactor. The temperature is also adjusted by causing a variable proportion of the water from the source to by-pass the economizer through conduit 21. The flows through conduits 21, 23 are controlled by valves 22, 25 which are regulated by valve controller 27 according to the temperature at 28. In place of the valves 22, 25 a single valve device may be provided (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). Additional control of coolant temperature may be obtained by regulating the pressure of steam generation in the tubes 9 as described in Specification 738,286. The invention may also be applied to nuclear power plant having a plurality of boilers or a boiler with sections operating at different pressures.
