Abstract

866,230. Soldered or brazed joints. A.E.I.- JOHN THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd. Aug. 20, 1959 [Sept. 17, 1958], No. 29791/58. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] In making a joint between a pair of tubular pipe members 1, 2, the end 6 of a first pipe 2 is radially expanded, the end 7 of the second pipe 1 is externally radially reduced, two or more annular grooves 5 are formed in the inner face of the first pipe, the grooves are filled or partially filled with rings formed from flat strips of a metal brazing or soldering medium, the ends of the pipes are telescoped together and the medium is melted to braze or solder the pipes. The joint may be provided between pipes in burst slug detection apparatus for a nuclear reactor.
