Abstract
866,195. Load-handling fittings for vehicles; self-lowering of a load. SHELL RESEARCH Ltd. March 20, 1959 [May 6, 1958], No. 14534/58. Classes 78 (2), 78 (3) and 78 (4). [Also in Group XXXII] A carriage 5, provided with a cradle 8 for supporting a load such as a cylindrical drum, moves down guides 3, which may be supported at their upper ends on the platform of a lorry 2, to deposit the load at the bottom of the guides and is then returned to the top of the guides automatically. A dashpot 22 (see Group XXXII) is provided to control the movement of the carriage down the guides, a cable 27 being anchored on the carriage and passing over pulleys 38-30 on the dashpot cylinder and pulleys 26 mounted on the piston-rod 24 of the dashpot to an anchorage on the piston-rod. As the carriage moves down the guides, the dashpot piston-rod 24 moves to the right, as shown, and compresses a spring 35 which returns the carriage to the upper ends of the guides after the cradle 8 has been tipped to deposit the load by means of a lever 13 which operates a trip 11 to release a spring-loaded catch 10. The carriage is retained at the upper ends of the guides by a catch 19 which is released by a lever 14.
