Abstract

A copper alloy having high electrical conductivity and good resistance to softening at high temperatures consists of oxygen-free copper and an amount of zirconium ranging from 0.003% up to the maximum amount retainable in solid solution in the said copper at a temperature between 700 DEG C and 1000 DEG C. The alloy may be solution treated in the range 700 DEG C to 1000 DEG C to form a single phase and then precipitation hardened in the range 300 DEG C to 600 DEG C. In between the heat treatments the alloy may be quenched and cold worked.
