Abstract
865,920. Electric immersion heater mounting. RANGE BOILERS Ltd. Jan. 28, 1959 [Feb. 3. 1958], No. 3414/58. Class 39(3). [Also in Groups XIII and XXVIII] For the connection of a neater, thermostat, pipe or pipe connection to a hot water tank after installation, the tank has a flanged ring c of copper or copper alloy secured to its wall, the bore being closed by a diaphragm d, Fig. 1, of the same material or by a portion e, Fig. 4, of the wall and this diaphragm or wall portion is removed by punching, cutting or unsoldering when the connection is to be made. There may be an internal screw thread on the ring c, or it may be external to receive a gland-nut. In Fig. 1 the ring c is rested on a rim b around a hole in the tank wall and a dished disc d is secured to the ring and tank wall. In similar embodiments, Figs. 2, 3 and 6 (not shown), the ring is secured to the wall adjacent the rim b and a flat disc is secured to the bottom or to the top of the ring, or the diaphragm is formed at the bottom of the ring integrally therewith. The ring may be secured to a flattened portion e of the tank wall, Fig. 4, or, e.g. with a cupped disc secured to it to close the bottom, Fig. 5 (not shown), it may be located in the end of a short neck fixed to an opening in the tank wall. Securement of the ring to the wall and of the disc to the ring may be by brazing, soldering or welding.
