Abstract
865,480. Moulding valve-receiving holes in tyre walls. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Aug. 17, 1959 [Sept. 11, 1958], No. 28004/59. Class 87(2). A hole for receiving a valve, Fig. 4 (not shown) in the side wall of a tyre is formed during vulcanization in a mould 3 by a pin 12 which is moved inwardly to the position shown in dotted lines by supplying compressed air to a piston connected to a rod 8. The pin is held in its retracted position by a spring 16. The member 13 is shaped to form an undercut groove in the tyre to retain the valve member, it is also of elliptical section so that on inflation of the tyre it becomes circular, in section. The pin slides through a sealing gasket 20. Specification 863,111 is referred to.
