Abstract

863,111. Moulding valve-receiving holes in tyre walls. GOODYEAR TYRE & RUBBER CO. Aug. 17, 1959 [Sept. 11, 1958], No. 28003/59 Class 87(2). A hole for receiving a valve, Fig. 4 (not shown) in the sidewall of a tyre is formed during vulcanization in a mould 2 by a pin which is moved inwardly to the position shown by supplying compressed air through a pipe 6 to a piston 12. Sealing rings 15, 16 and 17 prevent compressed air from leaking into the mould or between the plies of the tyre. In a modification, Fig. 5, the pin 31 has a vent 32 to allow air trapped in the plies of the tyre to escape.
