Abstract
A solid rocket fuel comprises a rubbery moulded and cured composition consisting of a solid inorganic oxidizing agent and either a liquid polysulphide rubber or a solution or dispersion of a diolefine polymer or copolymer in a heavy hydrocarbon or high boiling ester. The heavy hydrocarbon may be a lubricating oil, styrene and other polymerizable liquids; the ester is preferably derived from a dibasic acid, e.g. dibutyl phthalate, dioctylsebacate, and may be a polyester. Diene polymers specified are those from butadiene, chloroprene, isoprene, dimethyl butadiene and methyl pentadiene. The oxidizing agent is at least equal in weight to the total organic content of the composition. An organic oxidizing agent may be present. The oxidizing agent may be a perchlorate or ammonium nitrate with the addition of 2,2-dinitropropane, tetryl, cyclonite or P.E.T.N.
