A cargo ship for transporting loose materials of various densities, e.g. grain, coal, ore, has the cargo space divided by transverse bulkheads 5 into a number of spaces 4, smaller than the spaces 7, 8, the longitudinal bending moment, when the spaces 4 are filled with material of maximum density, i.e. the ship has its maximum allowable load, is within the limits of the longitudnal bending moment when the whole of the cargo space is filled with a material of minimum density.
