[Also in Division F4] Means for supporting a container (1), Fig. 2 (not shown), subjected to thermal movements, comprise a number of a first type of spaced support members (3) attached to the bottom of the container (1) as well as to the support base (2), in this case the cargo hold of a ship, and a number of a second type of support members (4), the height of which is less than that of support members (3) when these are unloaded, attached to either of the container bottom structure or the support base. A small amount of liquefied gas cargo is preferably left in the container to keep the members (3) partly deformed elastically owing to thermal contraction. When the container is filled with cargo, Fig. 3 (not shown), the secondary support members (4) take the weight of the container and cargo. The primary support members (3) may be made of rubber or synthetic resin or may consist of prismatic blocks of non- compressible material mounted on pivots carried by brackets connected to the container bottom and to the support base. The invention may also be utilized for containers adapted to carry heated cargo.
