Abstract

863,447. Brushes. MORTIMER, S. E., and USK PATENT PRODUCTS Ltd. Jan. 5, 1960 [Dec. 8, 1958], No. 39406 /58. Class 19. Tufts of thermoplastics monofilaments are, after the tufts have been inserted into a brush stock, shortened to the required length by the application to the free ends of the monofilaments of a heated blade. The crust formed by the molten material of the monofilaments is on hardening removed and the tufts subsequently combed. Another heated blade is then inserted between the filaments as often as is desired to shape the tufts and roughen the surfaces of the filaments thereof to give the required forms. Crust formed by solidfied plastics in this operation is then removed by combing to leave the bristle tufts of the required form.
