Abstract

A surgical sponge is made by enclosing a wad of absorbent material in a bag-like wrapper of pervious material, at least the edge portions of which contain heat-sealable material and the neck of the bag is held closed by heat sealing. In the preferred form the absorbent material is placed in the middle of a sheet of fabric which is then folded around it and drawn together to form a neck, which is then twisted slightly and heat sealed to retain it in position.
