862,749. Planing craft. SHIN-MEIWA KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug. 16, 1957, No. 25933/57. Class 113. In a vehicle (e.g. a flying boat, seaplane float, hydroplane or waterski) adapted to plane on water having a hull 1 with chines 4 along the forebody and at least partly of convexlycurved form 9 in cross section so as to cause spray sheets 11 produced during planing to hug the chines, the hull is provided with long narrow downwardly facing channels 7 to catch the spray sheets after they have ceased hugging the chine, means, e.g. slits 8 being provided for the outflow of spray caught in the channels. The flap 6 forming the channel may be fixed or hinged, may be adapted to fit against the hull side when not in use, or may be gill-like. The slits 8 may have closing plates hinged above them. Hinged flaps 6 may have hydraulic or electrical operating gear.
