A method of forming fleeces of organic or inorganic fibres comprises incorporating a granular bitumen or granular coal-tar pitch binding-agent into a mass of fibres by interspersing or shaking in followed by hea,t-softening and pressing or rolling. As shown, a fleece 3 is unwound by rollers 1, 2, then travels on conveyer belt 4 where granulate 5 is uniformly scattered over its surface from an intersperser 6, 7. The fleece then travels over shaking plate 8 actuated by eccentric 9 whereby the granulate is caused to penetrate into the interior of the fleece, which thereafter passes on conveyer belt 10 through a source of heat 11 in which the granulate is softened. The fleece may then be formed to the desired thickness and compressive strength by adjustable calibrating rolls 12, 13.
