Abstract

The sedimentation of solids, e.g. coal, kaolin, clay and ores, in sludges or suspensions is accelerated by the addition thereto of a water-soluble copolymer derived from monomers comprising acrylic acid, acrylonitrile and an acrylate of an aliphatic alcohol, the copolymer being prepared in accordance with Specification 831,832 (see Group IV(a)). The copolymer has a K value of 80 to 200 and is added in an amount insufficient to cause stabilization of the sludge or suspension, said amount being preferably 0.1 to 1.0 gram/cubic metre of sludge or suspension, the copolymer being added preferably in the form of a 0.5 to 2.0% aqueous solution.ALSO:The sedimentation of solids, e.g. coal, kaolin, clay and ores, in sludges or suspensions is accelerated by the addition thereto of a water-soluble copolymer derived from monomers comprising acrylic acid, acrylonitrile and an acrylate of an aliphatic alcohol, the copolymer being prepared in accordance with Specification 831,832 (see Group IV (a)). In examples the sedimentation of coal washing liquors and clay and kaolin sludges is described.ALSO:The sedimentation of solids, e.g. coal, kaolin, clay and ores, in sludges or suspensions is accelerated by the addition thereto of a water-soluble copolymer derived from monomers comprising acrylic acid, acrylonitrile and an acrylate of an aliphatic alcohol, the copolymer being prepared in accordance with Specification 831,832 (see Group IV (a)).
