862,558. Radial-arm drilling-machines. MULLER, H. Sept. 10, 1958 [Sept. 12, 1957], No. 29013/58. Class 83 (3). In a radial-arm drilling-machine, the control means are all grouped together, e.g. on the spindle head, to be operated by one hand of the operator. The housing 1 of the spindle head supports a rotating and axially movable control grip 2 secured to a spindle 8, which, when rotated, actuates a rotary switch 12 through gearing 11, to control the spindle motor, and when moved axially actuates switches through tapered faces 9 and pins 10 to control the vertical movement of the radial arm. Handles 3, 4 lock the radial arm, and operate the spindle feed respectively. A handle 5 operates the cutting oil supply mechanism, and comprises a two-armed lever with an inclined face 13 which, when moved about. the axis of spindle 8, operates a plunger 14 of the mechanism. A switch 6 for selecting operations such as drilling, tapping, &c., a feed-engaging indicating-lamp 7 and a manually operated feed-control lever 15, are attached to the head, the latter being inoperative when the element 4 is effective, and vice versa.
