Abstract

862,484. Automatic firearms. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES S. A. March 16, 1959 [March 25, 1958], No. 9035/59. Class 92. An automatic gun 2 slidable in a cradle 1 and including a buffer having a portion 5 secured to the cradle and a portion secured to the gun as well as a support 8 for a magazine or feed mechanism (not shown), which support is fixed to the cradle through holding means; characterized in that a readily detachable device is provided for securing the buffer and holding means to the cradle. The buffer comprises a cylinder 7 with a piston 17 and rod 18 and a spring 6. The holding means comprises a cross-bar 9 which retains the support 8 and connects two arms 10 whose rear ends are rotatable on bosses 15 at either side of the buffer-part 5 which is connected to the cradle 1 by a removable pin 11 as indicated in Figs. 3 and 5. A latch 13, 14 secures the cross piece 9 to the support 8 which is released when the latch is opened and the arms 10 allowed to pivot down about the bosses 15. Flats 15a allow the arms 10 to be dis-engaged rearwards when in the dropped position without removing the pin 11 from the part 5. In an embodiment shown in Fig. 1. The arms 10 are fixed to either side of the part 5 and the latch 13, 14 is omitted. In this embodiment the piston rod 18 lies in the forward direction and is housed in a recess in the boss on the gun at 4. When the pin 11 is removed the rod 18, cylinder 7 and arms 10 can be withdrawn to the rear to free the support 8. A guide 19 may be provided where the piston-rod 18 passes a lug 20 fixed relative to it on the part 4 when arranged as in Fig. 3. To prevent jamming due to distortion on stressing the guide 19 is made a loose fit in the lug 20 and is retained thereon by lugs 22 and shims 23 and 23a as shown in Fig. 9. Lugs on the pin 11 cooperate with slots 12 in the part 5 to prevent accidental removal of the pin.
