Abstract

A mould release agent for use in the moulding of polyurethane foams comprises a dimethylpolysiloxane which may contain a minor proportion of methylphenyl-, diphenyl-, phenylethyl-, methylvinyl- or diethyl-siloxane units, which is coated on the surface of the mould and cured in situ at room or elevated temperature by means of (a) cross-linking agents, e.g. methyl hydrogen siloxanes, alkyl silicates and polysilicates, together with metal carboxylates; (b) siloxanes containing SiH groups and chloroplatinic acid, where the dimethylsiloxane contains Si-bonded vinyl radicals; (c) atmospheric moisture, where the Si-OH groups. in the dimethylsiloxane have been replaced by acetoxy groups; and (d) organic peroxides and heating to above 110 DEG C. U.S.A. Specification 2,811,408 is referred to.ALSO:A mould release agent for use in the moulding of polyurethane foams comprises a dimethyl-polysiloxane which is formed on the moulding surfaces as a cured film. The term "dimethyl-polysiloxane" includes siloxanes in which all the units are of the formula (CH3)2SiO and those diorganosiloxanes in which a major proportion of the siloxane units are of this formula, the remainder being phenyl or lower aliphatic siloxane units. The presence of any appreciable amounts of triorgano-siloxane units is excluded. Thus the term includes copolymers of dimethylsiloxane with phenylmethylsiloxane, diphenylsiloxane, phenylethylsiloxane, methylvinylsiloxane, or diethylsiloxane. The siloxane can be applied to the mould surface by any convenient method such as by spraying, dipping or brushing, and it can be employed either per se or in solution or emulsion form. Relatively small amounts of the siloxanes are required, e.g. a dispersion containing 5% by weight gives good results. Any convenient method of curing may be employed. U.S.A.
