Abstract

A silicone rubber-forming composition, curable at room temperature under the influence of water or water vapour, comprises an anhydrous linear organopolysiloxane containing terminal Si-bonded hydroxy, alkoxy or aroxy-radicals, an anhydrous cross-linking agent, which is an orthosilicate, organoalkoxysilane or a partial hydrolysate thereof, and an anhydrous condensation catalyst. Fillers, when used, are also essentially anhydrous. The starting components are disclosed in Specification 841,825, but in that Specification the components were not anhydrous or dried. The components are in general used in amounts of 0.1 to 50 parts (by weight) of cross-linking agents, 0.01 to 10 parts of catalyst and up to 300 parts of filler per 100 parts of siloxane. The anhydrous components may be mixed together in an anhydrous atmosphere or in an anhydrous organic solvent. Examples are given.
