862,170. Press tool pressure-absorbing devices. ANDERTON SPRINGS Ltd. Sept. 30, 1959 [Oct. 14, 1958], No. 32723/58. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXII] A pressure pad unit 9 is fitted by means of a bed plate 1 and bolster plate 3, having apertures 2, 4, which, when secured together and located on the work table of the press, have their apertures in register to provide an opening of cruciform shape with supporting faces 6 on which rests a transverse head 11 extending from the housing 10 of the unit 9, which hangs through the opening. Within the housing 10 is a spring-loaded plunger 13 the stem 19 of which slides in an axial hole 20 in an adjusting member 21. The dimensions of the apertures may be so related to those of the head 11 as to allow adjustment for position, for which purpose also the bolster plate 3 may be divided on a line 27 and the relative positions of the plates 1 and 3 may be changed. With the unit 9 pendent the press tool die part can be located on the pad. The spring loading comprises belleville washers 25 which can be arranged in a variety of ways according to the degree of flexibility desired and further adjustment may be made by screwing the member 21 in or out of the housing 10. The plunger 13 is chamfered at 17 to avoid leaving lodging places for waste material.
