Abstract
861,953. Valves. VEREINIGTE ARMATUREN G.m.b.H. March 9, 1959 [March 11, 1958], No. 8116/59. Class 135. A flexible sleeve valve 7 clamped in a housing 1, 1<SP>1</SP> at its ends 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, when actuated by pressure applied at 12 via ports 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, closes on a hollow streamlined pipe insert 15 having openings 20, 20<SP>1</SP> at each end closed by non-return valves 22, 22<SP>1</SP> preventing flow into the interior, and by-pass orifices 19 symmetrically disposed in the wall of the insert upstream of the first place of closure contac tof the sleeve and insert and adapted to be covered as closure of the valve proceeds. Flow to the right seats valve 21 on the insert end 20 and through connecting rod 22<SP>11</SP> opens valve 21<SP>1</SP> from end 20<SP>1</SP>. As the longitudinally grooved sleeve is pressurized it first makes contact with the insert downstream of axially elongated orifices 19, due to displacement by the flowing fluid, whereby substantially full flow passes through openings 19, 20<SP>1</SP>. On further pressurization, the grooves close and the sleeve gradually closes openings 19 and prevents water hammer. For reverse flow valve 21 opens, valve 21<SP>1</SP> closes and first contact is made on the other side of openings 19.
