861,732. Refrigerators. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. March 9, 1959 [March 12, 1958]. No. 8047/59. Class 29 A refrigerator is fitted with a compression system so constructed that the refrigerator can be installed as shown in Fig. 1 or standing on end so that its greatest length extends vertically or in inverted position as an elevated wallmounted refrigerator. The evaporator 21 is a plate having passages 23 and disposed in a single vertical plane at the rear of the storage space, the accumulator 29 being disposed at one end and having its suction connection 30 disposed at such a level that half the volume of passages 23 lie below the level when the refrigerator is in the first position and half above. In the second position of the refrigerator, the accumulator is uppermost. Condenser 24 is mounted on a vertical rear plate 22 having an aperture 23 in which the motor compressor unit 26 is suspended by a pair of springs 34. Depending on which position the refrigerator is installed in, the springs 34 are engaged in one of three pairs of apertures 36 on three sides of aperture 23 so that the compressor unit is always right way up to ensure proper lubricant circulation. The door handles 13 are in the same place for all positions but for the second refrigerator position the doors are hinged along one long edge of the cabinet whereas for the other positions they are hinged on opposite short edges. Different cooling air channels 38 are provided for the three positions and, for the first position, a table top unit 40 is provided.
