Abstract
861,677. Reinforced concrete portal framework. ISAAC, G. Feb. 28, 1957 [Nov. 28, 1955], No. 39298/60. Divided out of 861,676. Class 20(4) A tension-transmitting joint between reinforced or pre-stressed members comprising a column 1, Fig. 2, and a rafter 2 of a portal framework includes one or more tie-bars 5 which are substantially parallel with and which overlap with the prestressing or reinforcing members 4 in the column. The tie bars may be housed in enlarged parts of the column and rafter, outside the remaining parts of the normal section and may be secured by grouting. The column and rafter may be assembled with a gap 12 defined by a spacer 9 to facilitate initial adjustment in position, the gap 12 being subsequently filled with grout. A pair of rafters meeting a ridge have the ridge joint located below the central or longitudinal axes of both rafters when the reinforcement is prestressed, or above the longitudinal or central axes of the two rafters when the reinforcement is unstressed, Fig. 4 (not shown). The joint at the ridge is constituted by a resilient packing 11 and one or more tie bars 8.
