Abstract
861,480. Controlling jet-propelled aircraft. HAWKER AIRCRAFT Ltd. Feb. 4, 1959 [June 2, 1958], No. 17600/58. Class 4. In an aircraft having a gas turbine, mounted at the centre of gravity, four nozzles are provided which may be orientated to give the craft forward propulsion or vertical lift. As shown, the turbine 1, mounted in fuselage 2, has two exhaust jet pipes 8 and two passages 5 leading from the compressor 4. Adjustable nozzles 6 and 6a are connected to 5 and 8 respectively by the joints 12, and may be simultaneously directed downwards or rearwards. Each nozzle contains guide vanes 11. To stabilize the aircraft during take off downwardly directed orifices are provided at the nose, tail and wing tips which are supplied with air from the compressor through the pipes 13.
