Class 43 An expanding link bracelet comprises two layers of links off-set by half the width of a link, each link of one layer being connected at each end by two bails 7 to two adjacent links of the other layer, the bails rotating when the bracelet expands flattening leaf springs 10, 22 inside the links, end wallings 5, 21, cover the cross pieces of the connector bails and at least a few links comprise part casings 11 having inlet openings 14 for the shanks of the connector bails and removable cover plates 12 which cover the inlet openings. The connector bails 7 may be interconnected after insertion in the links to form a rectangular shape or if joined before insertion each link has a continuous central slot. The bails may have various shapes such as a U, S or Z. The bracelet may be shortened by disengaging spring lugs 17 on the cover plates from a central aperture 16 in the part casing 11 and sliding the cover plates from the part casings the shanks 15 of the bails then being removed from the part casing to release an upper link. The upper bearing 40 has a central slot 41 and a cover shell 43 secured by tags 47 engaging recesses 48 in the casing and the part casing has a continuous slot with notches for engaging lugs on the cover plate. The lower wall of the casing may be removed, the spring lugs on the cover plate then engage a recess in the open of the spring which is inverted. The part casing 110, Fig. 25, has a spring 120 as the cover plate and partial end walls 111 retaining the bail 130 which engages an upper casing such as is shown in Fig. 3. The casing slides sideways to shorten the bracelet. The cover plate may have bent over edges forming guide grooves for the casing. Reducing the height of the casing or providing a stop such as stop 6a, Fig. 3, limits the extent of rotation of the bails.
