Abstract
860,997. Surgical syringes. HAUPTNER, H., and HAUPTNER, K., [trading as HAUPTNER, H. [Firm of]]. March 3, 1958, No. 6815/58. Class 81 (2). A syringe comprises two arms, one housing a liquid being formed as a handgrip to be embraced by the hand in use and carrying a cannula and the other arm being pivoted on the first and arranged so that movement thereof relative to the first arm is translated into projection movement of a piston for discharging the liquid. A sleeve 9 for receiving an ampoule is pivotally mounted at its forward end in a housing 1 forming one arm of the syringe. The housing 1 has a side aperture 8 through which the sleeve 9 is swung to receive the ampoule. A cannula 13 is secured by a nut 14 to the sleeve 9. A piston-rod 15 having indentations 16 projects into the housing 1 to abut against a rubber piston of the ampoule. An actuating lever 5 forming the second arm is pivoted on a trunnion screw 6 at the forward end of the housing 1. The lever 5 includes a fork 26 to which is pivoted a shift rod 21 disposed parallel to the piston-rod 15. A pawl 19, attached to the rear of the shift rod 21, engages the indentations 16 on the piston-rod 15. When the actuating lever 5 is pivoted towards the housing 7, the shift rod 21 and pawl 19 are moved forwardly against a spring 22, thus moving the piston-rod 15 forwardly by one indentation and ejecting a corresponding quantity of fluid from the ampoule. On release of the lever 5, the shift rod 21 and pawl 19 are urged rearwardly by the spring 22, the piston-rod being held against rearward movement, e.g. by a spring- loaded locking ball. The second arm may be pivoted near the rear of the housing 1 and extend forwardly. The piston-rod alternatively may be moved forwardly by a frictional clamping connection with the shift rod.
