Abstract
860,166. Bearings. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. July 1, 1958 [July 1, 1957], No. 20777/57. Class 12 (1). A rectilinear-motion roller-bearing, e.g. for supporting and accommodating the radial and longitudinal expansions of a heavy-pressure vessel containing hot fluids, comprises an upper assembly 1 having a pair of cylindrical rollers 6, 7 joined by links 8 and bearing-pins 9 and acting between upper and central bearing-plates 2, 3, and a lower assembly 4 comprising four cylindrical rollers 16 which are articulated by links 17 and bearing-pins 18 and act in a direction at right-angles to the rollers 6, 7 between the central bearing-plate 3 and a lower bearing-plate 5. The upper and lower rollers 7, 16 carry diametrically-opposed pins 11, 19 with ball-heads 12, 20 respectively, which engage in corresponding sockets 13, 21 in the respective bearing- plates and prevent the rollers from being disassociated with the bearing-plates. The locating-pins 11, 19 are welded in holes drilled in flats machined in the respective rollers. The bearing-plates 2, 3, 5 have side flanges which locate the roller assemblies laterally.
