A catamenial pad comprises an absorbent body 12, with a liquid.repellent, stabilizing backing-layer 18 and a liquid-permeable cover layer 14, the edges of which overlap the edges of the backing layer, and which is attached to the core by embossing, as at 22. The whole surface of the backing-layer may be embossed to give it added rigidity. Such a pad may be attached to a fabric strip by adhesive, or adhesive strips, the strip forming an underlying support and providing the necessary attachment tabs.
