Abstract

792,531. Catamenial appliances. KIMBERLY - CLARK CORPORATION. Sept. 12, 1956 [Oct. 5,1955], No. 27896/56. Class 81(2). In a sanitary napkin 10, comprising fluid repellent side strips 12 which partially overlie at least one surface of the pad 16, the said surface is provided with a fluid-repellent coating 22 which thus comes between the surface of the pad and the overlying edge portion of the strip 12. The coating is preferably a thermoplastic substance such as wax, latex emulsion, rosin or silicone and may be applied by spraying or printing directly on to the pad or alternatively the coating is initially placed on the inner surface of the side strips and transferred to the pad by heating. In either case it is preferred that the final coating should extend beyond the corresponding edges of the strip in order to prevent fluid passing to the outer face of the strips. If desired, the coating may extend down the side edges of the pad and possibly to the outer surface.
