Abstract

860,006. Rotary motors. PRATT, E. E., POWELL, R. V., and SHAW, H. E. S. Oct. 30, 1958 [Oct. 30, 1957], No. 33914/57. Class 110 (2). An hydraulic motor of the oscillating vanetype adapted to actuate for example a ship's rudder is provided with vanes which cooperate with a pair of opposed abutments, the rotor and vanes being bored for the passage of fluid to and from the working chambers. The fluid is fed to the rotor spindle through a port 37 in the casing 10 and is exhausted therefrom through a port 38, a rotatable sleeve valve 43 being disposed between the casing and the rotor spindle. In a modification, Figs. 6, 7 and 8 (not shown), the sleeve valve is replaced by a ported disc valve disposed transverse to the longitudinal axis of the rotor or by a further modified valve construction for details of which Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), should be referred to. The blades may be formed separately from the spindle and secured thereto by dowels (see Fig. 9, not shown).
