Abstract
859,858. Sawing. STARTRITE ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 12, 1959 [Dec. 2, 1958], No. 38828/58. Class 145. A combined thrust block and guide for varying widths of band saw blade comprises a housing 1 for two slides 3, 4, the slide 4 having blocks 10 each with a guide gap 11 and spaced on opposite sides of a thrust disc 8 rotatably carried by the slide 3, and the slides are simultaneously adjustable to move in opposite directions so that the correct proportion of the blade is accommodated in the guide gaps but the central longitudinal axis of the blade is aligned along the same path irrespective of the blade width. The slides are adjusted by oppositelyarranged cams or eccentrics 16, 17 on a shaft 15 which is slidably keyed to a sleeve 13 and has a knob 22 threaded to it at 21. The position of the knob on the threads is such that clockwise rotation from the position of Fig. 2 will tighten the knob on the shaft and sleeve and lock the slides before a pin 25 on the knob meets a pin 24 on the sleeve but unscrewing the knob half a turn in the opposite direction until the two pins abut causes rotation of the shaft and adjustment of the slides. A spring-loaded ball 26 seats in recesses in the sleeve flange 14 to provide a locating action and the knob may have an index mark co-operating with a scale on the sleeve.
