Abstract

562,837. Mitering wood. BRIDGES, L. April 5, 1943, No. 5416. [Class 145 (i)] A mitering block comprises two jaws, one of which is movable to and from the other, an upper part which is slidable transverselv on the lower part of each jaw, slotted saw guides which are pivoted on each upper jaw, and screws or bolts for locking the movable parts in the required positions. The fixed jaw 2 forms part of the base 1 of the device which is provided with slots 4, 4', in which the movable jaw 3 slides. The upper portion 5, 5<1> of each jaw is formed with a tongue 6, 6' by which it slides in a groove 7, 7<1> in the lower portion, screws 15, 15<1> being provided to enable the sliding portions to be clamped in any required position. The saw guides consist of cylindrical members 9, 91 housed in the jaw and provided with a spigot that enables it to be rotated about a vertical axis. Each member 9, 9' is provided with a slot 11, 11<1> to receive the saw, and with a pointer 13, 13' that moves over a graduated scale 14, 14<1>. Screws 12, 12<1> enable the guides to be clamped in any position of adjustment. In use, the material to be cut is mounted in a wooden block 18 which is held between the jaws, and the guides 9, 9' are turned to the required angle and locked in position. The jaw portions are then moved until the saw slots are in line with one another and are then locked in position by the screws 15, 15'.
