Abstract
859,825. Dentistry. KALTENBACH, A., and HOFFMEISTER, E. June 15, 1959 [June 21, 1958], No. 20511/59. Class 81 (2) In a dental handpiece having an air-driven turbine in the head, means are provided for positively preventing rotation of the outer races of the rotor bearings. This is to avoid the tendency for the outer races to work loose at the high speeds encountered, with consequent wear and possible damage to the bearings and rotor. It also avoids the possibility of distorting the bearings which occurs when they are inserted under very high pressure. In one form each outer race 14, 14 has a radial slot 18, 18, in its periphery, which is engaged by a radial pin 19, 19 driven in through a hole in the turbine casing. The assembly is secured by a dished spring 17, held in place by a screwed cap 15. It is also proposed to locate the races by means of pins set parallel to the rotor axis or by having a toothed end face engaging a corresponding surface in the body.
