Abstract

1509605 Supporting motor rotors in dental handpieces SIEMENS AG 8 July 1975 [31 July 1974] 28761/75 Heading H2A A dental handpiece motor rotor is mounted in rolling bearings having outer rings supported radially in a housing by resilient elements, at least one of the outer rings being resiliently supported axially, and an axial biasing force being applied to the bearings. In the arrangement shown, a rotor 6 is mounted within a housing 5 by means of two ball bearings 7, 8 having outer rings 15, 17 radially supported by two resilient 0-rings 12, 13, the ring 15 abutting axially against a fixed end cap 16 in consequence of an axial bias applied to the bearings by means of a spring washer 18 pressing against the axial end face of the ring 17. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), two ball bearings (22, 23) surrounded by 0-rings (24, 25) having outer rings (28, 29) with radial flanges (26, 27) and are axially biased either by a set of spring loaded shim discs (33) acting on one outer ring (28), or by an adjustable ring (35) pressing against an adjacent 0-ring (24).
