859,405. Mixing powders and liquids. KEK Ltd. Nov. 6, 1959 [Nov. 13, 1958; March 5, 1959], Nos. 36504/58 and 7699/59. Class 86 A mixer in which pulverulent materials. especially thermoplastic powders, may be mixed together or with a liquid plasticizer to produce a free-flowing mixture comprises a continuous tubular chamber a which may be circular, or oval as shown. Material to be treated (for instance a polymer or solid stabilizer) is fed into the connection d from a feed hopper e and hot compressed air injected at f. Plasticiser and/or liquid stabilizer is fed through the pipe h around which hot compressed air is admitted. Further hot air at still higher pressure is injected through nozzles at i and j, breaking up the material and providing the main energy for mixing by tubular flow round the chamber a. The dry powder mix leaves through the transfer duct m, in which a jet of cold air may be introduced to cool the powder and prevent agglomeration. The particle size of the mix may be reduced by reducing the diameter of the transfer duct m or by a sleeve. When no liquid is being mixed the inlet g is blanked off and no air is introduced through the pipe h.
