Abstract

A sintered hard metal alloy has a composition in per cent by weight, in the following range: Titanium carbide 30-45. Tantalum and/or niobium carbide 1-3. Bonding metal e.g. iron nickel or cobalt 8-11. Tungsten carbide the remainder. The alloy containing gamma phase consisting of a solid solution of tungsten carbide and tantalum carbide and/or niobiub carbide in titanium carbde, beta phase consisting of bonding metal and possibly, alpha phase consisting of tungsten carbide, the volume per cent of the phases being governed by the following relationship. 100-beta \sFgamma>100-1.5 times beta.
