Abstract
858,909. Cartonning machines. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. May 14. 1959 [Feb. 15, 1958], No. 4993/58. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXIV] Filled cartons 11, with their end closure tabs 14, 17, 32 extending outwardly at each end, are contained in pockets 12 of a conveyer 13 which forwards the successive carton 11 through a series of folding stations. The leading side tabs 14 are folded over by stationary folders 16. The trailing tabs 17 are folded inwardly by members 18 each pivotally mounted on an arm 19 pivotally mounted on a fixed bracket 21. Each folding member 18 has an extension 27 connected by a pivoted link 28 to a stationary pivot 29. The mechanism causes the folding members 18 to pivot on the arm 19 in the same direction as that of movement of the arm 19, thus imparting a quick action to the holding members 18. The arms 19 are connected by a link 23 for simultaneous action. After the closing of the end tabs 14 and 17 the carton 11 passes to a further station where the end flaps 32 of the cartons are closed to complete the packages.
