A punching device for punching shaped blanks from strip consists of an upper tool having a cylindrical body which is a sliding fit in a recess in the body of the lower tool, and each tool has cutting and stripping members in the form of interchangeable plates. The bodies 2, 8 of the upper and lower tools, Figs. 1 and 2, respectively, are provided with vertical bores. In the upper tool, rods 15 in the bores abut at one end against stripping plates 5, 17 and at the other against a disc 14 engaging a resilient block 13. A punch plate 7 is bolted to the body 2. In the lower tool, Figs. 2 and 3, thin die-plates 9, 19 are secured on a support plate 10 in the recess in the body 8 and the stripping plate 20 abuts rods 12 in the bores, the rods resting on a block 21 raised by a pneumatic device. Pegs 18, 23 in the body 8 locate in holes in the upper body, and bolt heads 22 serve to guide the strip. A lamp 24 illuminates the lower tool. In a modification the lowermost tool has a central through-bore and small punches to form small holes in the blank are provided. The body of the upper tool is of two-part construction.
